Nairobi, Wednesday, 27th August 2025....Kenya Power has kicked off its 2nd Grid and Innovation
Conference 2025, a forum through which the Company intends to drive innovative solutions to address
emerging issues in the energy sector.
The Conference, themed “Accelerating Innovation for Business Sustainability,” has brought together
more than 400 participants, including employees, energy sector leaders, researchers, and policy makers.
“At Kenya Power, our mandate goes beyond keeping the lights on. We aim to be the energy solutions
provider of choice, delivering efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Therefore, innovation is not an
option but the foundation of our growth, resilience, and ability to serve a growing economy,” said Kenya
Power’s Managing Director & CEO, Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror.
The Conference comes at a time when the country is scaling up electricity connections to attain universal
access by the year 2030, thus calling for innovative ideas to ensure reliable and adequate power supply as
customers adopt to new technologies that drive demand for electricity, such as e-cooking and electric
mobility.
“Innovation is a catalyst for revolutionizing access to affordable, clean, and reliable energy solutions.
Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, and e-mobility is a
testament to the critical role of innovation in the energy sector,” said Kenya Power’s Chairman of the
Board of Directors, Joy Brenda Masinde.
To demonstrate its commitment to mainstream innovation in its operations, the Company has
today launched its Innovation Ideas Portal that will be hosted at the Institute of Energy Studies
and Research (IESR), a fully-owned subsidiary of Kenya Power.
The portal will capture and track the growth and commercialisation of innovations targeting the energy sector
sector in the region.
“It is through innovation that energy systems will become environmentally, socially, and financially solid.
The innovation ideas hub will provide structured support to the innovators to match solutions to the
challenges that we are facing in the energy sector. I commend Kenya Power for organising the Grid and
Innovation Conference, which serves as a platform for cross-sector collaboration, with stakeholders from
academia, government, and private industry exchanging ideas and forging partnerships,” said Energy
and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi.
This year’s Conference will explore transformative solutions on Emerging Issues, Knowledge
Management, System Losses, Revenue Diversification, and Kenya Power in the digital space.
